Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Injury Physio Treatment

ACL injury is the tearing of the anterior cruciate ligament. This ligament is one of the major ligaments in your knee. ACL injuries most commonly occur during sports that involve sudden stops, jumping or changes in direction.

Physiotherapy can help in either the conservative or surgical management of an ACL injury. Regaining muscle strength, balance, and basic co-ordination are the goals of early ACL rehabilitation. This phase usually commences with easy body weight type exercises. Lunges are a good functional introduction to muscle strength, co-ordination, basic co-ordination and knee alignment. The aim of Physiotherapy is to minimise pain and regain strength so that you will be able to return to function quickly and comfortable. After which, Physiotherapy will then be able to assist you in your return to sport whether you might be the recreational jogger or an elite athlete.
